The Cranford Board of Education is pleased to announce Sean Sawyer as the new principal of Lincoln School, effective January 1, 2025. Mr. Sawyer was selected after an extensive search process which included multiple interviews with the selection committee; reviews of work samples; and a very thorough reference check.
Mr. Sawyer, will be succeeding Mr. Dennis McCaffery, who is retiring effective January 1, 2025, after serving as Lincoln School principal for the past 20 years, following 10 additional years of service in Cranford. We are very appreciative of Mr. McCaffery’s passion and commitment in service to our school community and wish him much deserved happiness as he starts this new and exciting chapter in his life.
Sean Sawyer has served in several roles in education since April of 1996. Mr. Sawyer began his career in the East Orange School District where he worked as a substitute teacher, 5th grade teacher, and Dean of Students. As an administrator, he led efforts to improve and enhance school culture and academic performance. He then took his leadership skills to University Academy Charter High School in Jersey City where he served as the assistant principal for fifteen years. Among his many accomplishments, he was instrumental in the development of a freshman academy that provided transitional guidance, mentoring and support for students. Prior to his appointment in Cranford, Sean Sawyer served as the middle school principal of the Community Charter School of Paterson.
Mr. Sawyer earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Morgan State University and a Masters of Arts in Educational Administration from New Jersey City University. Currently he is a doctoral candidate at Kean University.
Sean Sawyer has greatly enjoyed the opportunity to positively impact the students and families of East Orange, Jersey City, and Paterson. He is appreciative of the relationships he has made and the partnerships he has built with the faculty, students, and parents/guardians.
Mr. Sawyer is honored to be joining the Cranford School District as the principal of Lincoln School. He looks forward to partnering with the dedicated staff, parents/guardians, students, and the community to see how he can best serve the school and ensure a successful year for all students.
